Description : Details: These vintage, hand-carved wooden sculptures were part of a collection of folk art and artifacts collected by a teacher who traveled in east Africa in the 1950s and 1960s. The lighter-colored figure was probably made by the Makonde of Tanzania. Both are carved of heavy, dense wood. The female figure is nicely detailed, with a baby on her back in a sling, and an elaborate headdress. Both figures stand about 20 tall.
