Notes : Provenance:Morlet Collection, BrusselsGraham Collection, New YorkBradley Tribal Arts, New YorkPublished:Bach S. & Seigmann, W. (1991) Assuming the Guise: African Masks Considered and Reconsidered, Williamstown, MA, Williams College Museum of Art. p. 31, fig. 17. This Bete mask is both strong and refined in the treatment of its negative space. It is typical of the African sculptures that my friend Bill Rubin would have illustrated next to the work of Henry Moore, in the “Primitivism” exhibition at MOMA in 1984.Michael Kan, 2008
