Description : [ Historical Artifacts ] Classical Greek Depiction of an African Electrum coin, .5in diameter, ca. 400 BC, Island of Lesbos. Electrum, being a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver, was used extensively for coinage by the Greeks of western Asia Minor and the Aegean islands. This rare 1/6th stater has the turreted head of Artemis-Kybele on the obverse and the profile portrait of an African on the reverse.
