Description : Fine Massim Standing Figure by Mutuaga, Trobriand. Islands, Papua New Guinea. Carved and engraved hardwood. Eastern Papua New Guinea, Massim region, the well rendered figure standing with arms curled tight at the chest on a three legged stool, incising, posture and facial design all characteristic of the artist’s hand. Medium brown surface with aged patination. Approx L38.7cm. PROVENANCE Bonhams Fine African and Oceanic Art, New York, May 15th., 2008, Lot 515.
