These are fearsome effigies intended to ward off evil spirits, to discern the truth. A statue with a more ovoid face is in the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren. With the same attitude: standing posture, right arm raised, the fingers of the hand forming a circle intended to hold a weapon, left arm resting on the hip. This work comes from Mayombe and would have been used at the beginning of the 20th century.
