Wolf Kibel 1903-1938 Portrait After Rembrandt signed pastel 60 by 47cm As this is the case perhaps it is as well to trace the history of Kibel's path through Cape Town by the plain light cast by the daily press. In the Cape Times Supplement of July 30, 1935 the following appears together with two photographs: Modern Art. Some of the pictures by Wolf Kibel who will hold an exhibition of his work in Cape Town shortly. The collection includes oils and pastels one of each being reproduced here together with a photograph of the artist in his studio working on a copy of a picture by Rembrandt. Kibel loved Rembrandt's work and Lippy Lipshitz who opened this exhibition explained how, in the copy, Kibel made his own interpretation of the work. Lipshitz was a great friend of Kibel's and deeply appreciative of his work'.
