Anmerkung : A major figure in later 20th century South African photography, George Hallett’s career has spanned over half a century, beginning with his work as a street photographer in District Six. After years of exile in the United States and Europe, Hallett returned to South Africa where he has continued to in uence and mentor younger generations of artists and writers. This intimate portrait of Gerard Sekoto is an exemplary example of Hallett’s craft: soulful engagement with the sitter, careful formal composition and masterful hand printing in his own darkroom.
