Demas Nwoko (Nigerian, born 1935) Wooden doors depicting the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ: commissioned by the Cathedral Church of Christ 284.5 x 167.6 x 7.5cm (112 x 66 x 2 15/16in).
Herkunft : These doors were commissioned for the Cathedral Church of Christ in Marina, Lagos, by Chief Dr. Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi's family in 2013. The Majekodunmis aproached the renowned Nigerian artist and architect, Demas Nwoko. The commission was completed in 2015. However, due to an expansion of the wood, the doors were never installed. The doors are 75mm thick (66 inches by 112 inches); they are carved from Apa wood, and worked on in the artist's studio in Asaba, Delta State. The design concept was inspired by the Biblical account of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. The left leaf depicts Christ's followers receiving the Holy Spirit. The right leaf depicts Christ rising from a field of lilies.
