Provenienz & Historie

Beschreibung : Rare ancient Egyptian Schist Scarab identified as the 'Nash' scarab (lost scarab 1969 "The Commemorative Scarabs of Amenhotep III" see pic LSC ll) made from green schist (sericite schist: ref Kozloff in "Egypts Dazzeling Sun"). This was a commemorative lion hunt scarab issued by Amenhotep III (18th Dynasty). Text on reverse records the lion hunts of Amenhotep III. There are only 123 of these scarabs that have been identified. (Ref Percy Newberry "Egyptian Scarabs": see pic of scarab illustration ). This scarab carved from greenish schist has been identified as possibly owned by Mr. Nash. Most of these scarabs are in major museums around the world. Condition excellent except for some wear to the top of scarab (elytra area) approx 1" circumference & a slight discoloration to top corner of schist on reverse side. Comes with box stamped on outside & inside 'Lord Hamlet Reg No. 5584'.
