Beschreibung : The Salampasu people of the Democratic Republic of Congo are fierce warriors, and this is shown prominently in their masks. Salampasu masks feature a pointed chin under a squared mouth baring sharp, pointed teeth. They have a pierced rounded nose and rectangular eyes beneath a bulbous forehead, and are decorated with red and black pigments. Provenance: These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s.
