Das ist der Preis für die folgende Bewertung: Egyptian New Kingdom Carved Sandstone Ushabti, 2014

Beschreibung : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. A rare example of a hand-carved sandstone ushabti figure standing in mummiform with fused legs and feet protruding from the base. The figure exhibits horizontal striations across the surfaces indicative of the carving process and crosses it arms over the chest, perhaps with a pick and hoe originally painted atop the stone. The serene visage exhibits almond-shaped eyes beneath heavy lids, a bulbous nose above full lips, puffy cheeks, a false beard, and tall ears, all beneath a long tripartite wig with thick lappets draped atop the shoulders. Faint remains of orange and white pigment are visible around the composition. Sandstone ushabti are of greater rarity than comparable examples carved from limestone or alabaster due to the fragility of the stone. A fabulous example! Size: 3.125 W x 9.25 H (7.9 cm x 23.5 cm), 10.875 H (27.6 cm) on included custom stand. Ushabti figures are figures shaped like adult male or female mummies wearing traditional Egyptian headdresses. The ancient Egyptians believed that, after they died, their spirits would have to work in the Field of Reeds owned by Osiris, the god of the underworld. As a result, they are frequently depicted with arms crossed, typically holding picks and hoes, with baskets on their backs. This meant that the task of agricultural labor was required by all members of society, from workers and scribes to aristocrats and even pharaohs. The wealthier nobility in Egyptian society were able to have ushabti made of faience, though wood was a more economical option for members of lower classes. Another sandstone ushabti for the General Kasa hammered for GBP 30,000 ($36,666) at Bonhams, London, New Bond Street Antiquities auction (April 3, 2014, lot 151).
