He is most famous for his excavations at Great Zimbabwe, which provided the first solid evidence that the site was built by Shona peoples. Randall-MacIver began his career working with Flinders Petrie in Egypt, uncovering the mortuary temple of Senwosret III. He moved to America when he was appointed as Egyptology curator at the Penn Museum, University of Pennsylvania, in 1905. The exterior is largely well preserved, showing only minor shelf wear and light sunning to the foot of the spine cover. The binding is sound. The pages exhibit light toning concentrated at the extremities. Contained within are numerous textual illustrations and plates. This book is preserved in its original tan dust jacket, with blue lettering on the cover and spine. The jacket displays toning (most evident at the edges and along the spine panel) and minor chipping. An original price of 126 shillings appears at the foot of the front flap of the jacket.
