Mali, Dogon people, around 1910
Two slender figures
Heights: 21 cm and 19 cm
Good conditionThese two wooden, standing sculptures from Mali depict male nude figures. The heads are rendered slightly larger than the rest of the slender bodies. One of the figures is presumably Dyougou Serou, who is hiding his face with his hands in shame, because of incest with his mother. The Dogon people are located in Western-Africa and in the East of Mali. They are famous for their carved objects, especially for the over hundred different types of masks and sculptures. The sculptures are in good condition. One of the two shows signs of use and has a small loss in the leg area. The larger sculpture measures 21 cm in height, while the other one is 19 cm high.
