Das ist der Preis für die folgende Bewertung: Fine Colima Redware Dog Vessel, 2014

Beschreibung : Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hollow ceramic vessel in the form of an extremely corpulent canine, one of the most famous of the classes of West Mexican shaft tomb culture artifacts. This portly pooch has a lively face with incised ovoid eyes, a petite snout with drilled pupils, a wide mouth, and perky ears. The enormous body is supported by four curved legs with rounded feet, and a wide, tubular spout doubles as the tail. Highly-burnished and covered in deep red slip, this is a wonderful example from ancient West Mexico! Size: 10.625 L x 6.75 W x 6.875 H (27 cm x 17.1 cm x 17.5 cm). Scholars know of at least two types of Colima dogs, one to be fattened up and ritually sacrificed or eaten and one to serve as a watchdog and healer of the ill. This plump hairless canine known as a Chichi or Escuintla is thought to be related to the Chihuahua or Mexican Hairless also known as the Xoloitzcuintle. The Xolo dog was named for the deity Xolotl, the God of the Underworld, and believed to guide the deceased as they journeyed to the afterlife. Colima vessels such as this one were buried in shaft tombs to protect the deceased and provide sustenance for eternity. A stylistically-similar example with an open mouth and no tail spout hammered for $12,500 at Sotheby's, New York African, Oceanic and Pre-Columbian Art Including Property from the Krugier and Lasansky Collections Auction (May 16, 2014, lot 254): Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection, ex-private Massachusetts, USA collection All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
