Titel : Egyptian Plaster Royal Head
Größe : 3 1/2 in. (8.9 cm.) high
Herkunft : Miss Lily Place.Minneapolis Institute of Art, 1925.with Superior Galleries, Los Angeles, 1975.
Literature : G.D. Scott, III, Exhibition catalogue, Temple, Tomb and Dwelling: Egyptian Antiquities from the Harer Family Trust Collection, San Bernardino, 1992, no. 11, pp. 26-27.
Anmerkung : According to Scott (op. cit., p. 26) plaster was used by sculptors in ancient Egypt for non-aesthetic reasons: to hide imperfections in stone, to correct mistakes, or to conceal figures or inscriptions that were to be deleted from a composition for social or political reasons. In addition, plaster was used for experimental works, and it is possible that this head served as a sculptor's model. However, a votive or commemorative use for this head should not be ruled out.
