Description : Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 11th to 14th Dynasty, ca. 2130 to 1650 BCE. A hand-carved wooden right arm from a larger human figure. The surfaces are decorated with gentle yellow pigment that mimics sun-washed skin while remains of red along the shoulder as well as black-painted bracelets indicate how elaborately the full figure must have appeared when first carved. Held firmly inside of clenched fingers is a slender, brown-painted handle, perhaps the handle of a tool or other daily implement, while a pair of mortises on the inside of the shoulder illustrate how the arm attached to the larger articulated figure. Size: 12.5 L x 1.5 W x 2.625 H (31.8 cm x 3.8 cm x 6.7 cm), 4.3 H (10.9 cm) on included custom stand.
