Note : Zakkie remembers a hot summer's afternoon spent watching the clouds from the little balcony of Pierneef's studio. Together they marvelled at the cumulous formations building up on the horizon, the elder man pointing out the dramatic shadows and fleeting moments of reflecting light. Towards the end of the afternoon, Zakkie said: 'Oom Henk, will you teach me how to paint clouds?', to which Pierneef replied placidly: 'But Zakkie, I have been showing you all afternoon.
