VICTOR BUTLER (Ghanaian, born 1964) The Second Meeting
Provenienza : N.B. Born in 1964, Victor Butler is a self-taught Ghanaian artist who has studied medicine and has worked in auto mechanics, information technology, and furniture design. His scientific mind is evident in the careful assembly of his surrealist compositions which take on a narrative that is influenced by African identity and ancestral roots. The present work features three figures within one of Butler's signature futuristic mindscapes. The figures are gathered in a tight circle as they converse in front of mountainous ruins. The title, The Second Meeting, stirs up an image of old friends catching up after a long period apart and evokes a longing for connection and community. Butler has gained international recognition exhibiting in Nigeria, Canada, England, France and the United States. His work can be found in corporate and private collections internationally, including within the collections of the Official Residence of the President, Parliament House, Accra City Hall, Ghana and The Government And The People Of France.
