Note : Provenance:Private collection Florida, USA: acquired in Egypt in the late 1950s and thence by descent. In the 1950s and 60s Seif Wanly was the head of an artistic group called 'The Alexandria Experimental Group' whose members attempted to bridge the gap between the early Egyptian pioneer artists such as Mahmoud Said and Mahmoud Mokhtar, and the modernists. The members of this group followed Western artistic styles and it is clear to see the influence of cubism on Wanly's depiction of a mother and child.
