LCD17 The long-wheelbase versions of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud and Bentley S1 continued after the introduction of the new 6,230cc aluminium-alloy V8 engine on the 'Cloud II/S2 in the autumn of 1959, offering a less expensive alternative to the newly introduced Phantom V. Four inches longer in the wheelbase than the standard saloon and usually fitted out with a division, these bodyshells were extended by Rolls-Royce's in-house coachbuilder Park Ward (soon to become Mulliner Park Ward) at its London works and finished off at Crewe. Just 299 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II and 57 Bentley S2 long-wheelbase saloons were made before the introduction of the Silver Cloud III. This right-hand drive Silver Cloud II long wheelbase saloon was imported from Hong Kong by Nigel Cooper, of London, in 1990, 'tastefully restored' and sold to the present owner for œ22,000 in 1991. The car had seen ambassadorial service in Hong Kong for almost 30 years, covering just 29,000 miles, a reflection of the compact nature of what was then Britain's sole surviving Far Eastern possession. It was purchased as an investment to be realised on retirement, and has been carefully stored until the present date. We are advised that the import documentation is available, the written history however, has been mislaid, but should be verifiable via Nigel Cooper and the DVLA. The car's handsome appearance belies its age. Lightly exercised from time to time, it was last MoT'd in 1996 and, although in running order, would benefit from a service and gentle re-commissioning. The car is finished in two-tone silver/midnight blue with superb pale grey leather interior boasting an internal electric division, picnic tables and sheepskin over-rugs plus, of course, the customary expanse of beautiful walnut veneer.
