Descrizione : Details: This lot consists of the antique engravings shown in the corresponding images. These engravings are taken from Vues des Cordillères, et monumens des peuples indigènes de l'Amérique (first published in 1816) by Alexander von Humboldt. The first, Fragment d'un manuscrit hieroglyphique conserve a la bibliotheque royale de Dresde, is hand-colored. The second, Ruines de Miguitland ou Mitla, dans la province d'Oaxaca, features a man, perhaps an archaeologist, hanging a plumb line from the top of the ruins. The artist is credited as Louis Martin and the engraver as Bouquet. These engravings are from the holdings of Archaeologia Books and Prints. Established in 1983, Archaeologia was known for providing scholarly books of quality on the archaeology of Ancient Egypt, the Near East, Greece & Rome, and the Pre-Columbian Americas.
