Descrizione : Bronze Egypt, Late Period (30th Dynasty) to Ptolemaic Period Two amulets in the form of standing statuettes of Osiris and Nefertem Dimensions: 5.7 x 1.5 x 0.6 cm, 5.3 x 1 x 0.6 cm (width x height x depth) Provenance: Private Collection Bruno Wertz Scientific research: Dr. Jan Moje, Free University of Berlin (see references below) These two amulets originate from the Late Period of ancient Egypt, the 30 υ th Dynasty, to the Ptolemaic Period (380-30 BCE). One bronze depicts Osiris standing, in mummy shape. He is wearing the Atef crown with sun disk as upper crowning. The Uraeus is located on the front side of the crown and on the chin is the god's beard. Both arms run together in front of the breast, whereby the right hand is holding a frond and the left hand is holding the sceptre. Such pieces could be either worn on chains, or they were wrapped into the mummy bandages during embalmment ceremonies. The second figure is formed in the shape of Nefertem, god of the lotus flower as well as of ointments and aromas. According to ancient Egyptian mythology, the Lotus appeared from the Nun, the primal ocean. Nefertem originally was the god of the primal ocean. The striding stand figure is wearing a long, three-parted wig and a relatively short god's beard. Above the wig is a typical crown for this god in the shape of a lotus flower with tall feathers. The god is wearing a pleated apron. A separately-crafted eyelet is attached to the backside like seen in many amulets. The two bronze amulets stand in age-appropriate, very well preserved, condition with usual traces like material surface abrasion. Both bronze amulets have got a nice green patina. Osiris is surviving in his entity. Nefertem is missing his body below the knees, and his face is largely abraded. The bronze figures are installed on modern Plexiglas plinths. The size of Osiris is 5.7 x 1.5 x 0.6 cm, and the size of Nefertem is 5.3 x 1 x 0.6 cm (width x height x depth).
