With original maps, subscriber's list, along with an ornate bookplate for Samuel Eyre Armiger applied to pastedown. Bound with text are 34 pages of copper plate handwriting, in diary and inventory format, dated 1729, another single manuscript page, numbered 147 is bound between pages 146 and 149. Finely bound in dark morocco with floral gilt work to borders and edges, gilt spine with raised bands, all edges gilt with light tooling, marbled endpapers Catalogue note: John Braithwaite (1696-1740) was a member of the African Company, and as secretary to a relative, was stationed in Gibraltar, eventually finding his way to Morocco. His experiences there are documented in the present volume. He was killed in 1740 by a Spanish privateer while returning to England.
