Descrizione : Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 24th Dynasty, ca. 1069 to 720 BCE. An interesting, mold-formed faience scarab of a sizable, ovoid form covered in lustrous sapphire blue glaze. The topside features a convex wing carapace, sinuous legs, and an incised sun disc surmounting the slender head and frilled clypeus. Within the drilled suspension hole is a modern gilt copper swivel pin. The underside of the scarab features a column of hieroglyphs bearing the name of 18th Dynasty pharaoh Thutmose III (ca. 1479-1425 BCE) beside a standing god wearing the Pschent crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. Size: 1.1 L x 0.78 W (2.8 cm x 2 cm) Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. Condition report : Scarab is ancient and gilt copper swivel pin is modern. Chips to legs and areas of lower periphery as shown, with minor softening to some hieroglyphs and standing god figure, and light encrustations within some recessed areas. Nice remains of glaze pigment throughout.
