Descrizione : EGYPT. Second Intermediate Period, 21st Dynasty, circa 1069-945 BCE. Blue glazed faience ushabti. Standing 3.9 inches (9.9 cm) tall with 3.5-inch black base, this bright blue mummiform figure with black painted detail and hieroglyphics holds a pair of hoes with his crossed hands and wears a seed basket over his shoulder and on his back, the single vertical column of hieroglyphics reads: The Osiris, the God's Father of Amun, Amenemope justified. Minor cosmetic repair to upper left eyebrow and forehead, otherwise intact. Cf. Schneider, op. cit., 121, no. 4.3.1.4. Ex Ivan Traugott Collection, Stockholm, Sweden, obtained prior to 1958, obtained from Susan Kayatte, Ancient Art Gallery, New York, NY prior to 1958. In Egyptian funerary practice, ushabtis were small figurines representing workers and servants, intended to serve the deceased person in the afterlife. Their use is first attested in the 11th dynasty, circa 2100 BCE.
