Descrizione : Additional Information: , A mask made out of hard wood with traits typical of the Dan style: a concave face, large domed forehead, slitted eyes, a  ,protruding mouth, strong nose. Exceptionally, this mask does not have the usually dark patina. instead, it has a beautiful timeless patina. And its naturalistic expression make it a desirable piece to collect. Formally, such a mask belongs to the category of  ,Tankagle (also known as Deangle) masks, said to represent an idealized woman, the sublime feminine beauty and used as a dance masks , which also play the role of guardian of the circumcision camp during the rites of circumcision and initiation of young boys among the Dan. , , It is during their performances that a particular name would be given to a mask and thus, in relation with , the functions assigned to a mask. , The Dan (or the Yacuba in some writing), in the past lived in small villages and towns ruling themselves through a complex arrangement of family lineages, men&rsquo,s secret societies and various initiation ceremonies.
