Descrizione : Chi- Wara Antelope Headcrest, Bamana, Mali, African Additional Information: This interesting composite Chi-Wara crest mask representing a hyppotragus  ,antelope and an anteater. The condition of this piece is good and the surface shows much handling and good age.  ,Though considered to be a medium carving this is an interesting and well caved example of the Bamana art and will add a unique object to any collection. Chi wara or Tji Waras are danced twice a year, for the planting, and again after the harvest to honor the best farmer in the village. Sometimes the figure is above another animal, not always clearly definable as to species. The antelope represents the mythical character who taught the Bambara how to cultivate the land.
