Height 15/16in. 4.3cm Provenance Bonham's London October 3rd 2000 no. 400 illus. For an alabaster vessel of similar form cf. Mummies & Magic no. 78 A related situla in amethystine quartz and dated to circa 710 B.C. was found in the tomb of Queen Tabiry at El Kurru in Nubia (see Nancy Thomas The American Discovery of Ancient Egypt Los Angeles 1995 p. 197 no. 97 This situla and the fact that Egyptian objects in rock- crystal are unusual suggest that the present example may have been intended for royal use.
