Descrizione : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART: KWELE CARVED WOOD FIGURE - Standing figure of a woman with her hands on her distended abdomen. Body scarification on chest, legs, abdomen and face. Wearing a raffia skirt. Regarded as important in guarding the health and safe delivery of an expectant mother. Note, The Kwele people produce almost no statues thus making this figure unusual. Condition good, some chips and wear as seen. Late 19th/Early 20th century. 23H
