Descrizione : Africa, Yoruba Culture, Nigeria, western Africa, ca. 1940 to 1950. Wonderfully vibrant and striking wooden headdress! Carved in 2 pieces with almost life-sized head of a male, hair pulled to one side looking somewhat phallic, he wears a short beard and is decorated with three areas of vertical scarifications - painted in red, black and off-white. This mounted into rounded slightly conical collar which would have been attached to a headdress. A stunning piece of original African tribal art! All tribal examples have been vetted and are guaranteed authentic tribally used pieces and not tourist items.
