Notes : "At first glance, my work may appear to be inspired by road markings - and in many ways, it is. For years, I've been fascinated by the layers of paint on streets: the accumulation of lines, symbols and corrections that map out movement and change. When you look more closely, you begin to see not just marks, but layers of time - traces of history, errors, revisions and ultimately the present moment, which offers us direction. To me, these markings became a metaphor for the layered journey of life. While we often follow paths laid out before us, we're not confined by them. We navigate based on our own decisions, sometimes aligning with the lines and sometimes diverging. These choices define the routes we take - each one uniquely ours." -Strijdom van der Merwe, 2025.
