Notes : Colbert Mashile creates intricately detailed artworks in which he blends reoccurring animal creatures and human beings to reflect on the mythology and folklore of his upbringing. Many of his artwork titles are seSotho descriptions of the imagery found in his creations. His imaginative characters, who appear as expertly crafted half-human, half-animals, are a depiction of various aspects of human nature. This concept is incredibly powerful because of Mashile's careful consideration of different facets of culture, which is clearly connected to his grasp of the sociopolitical environment he lives in.
