Ibrahim El-Salahi (Sudan, Born 1930) Untitled (Standing Figure) (Framed)
Provenance : Provenance Property from a private collection, London Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner's aunt, circa 1990 Note: The authenticity of the present work has been confirmed by the artist. 'In the 1960's I adopted a radically different style, a sort of free, spontaneous painting dependent mainly on line and very simple forms. They featured formations of ghostly human shapes against dark backgrounds and a limited colour scheme involving a kind of dry earth touch. The figures gazed serenely into hollow emptiness, completely absorbed, looking at and through me, as if trying to remind me, through their weird, perfect silence, of what I had failed to see' - Ibrahim El Salahi
