Description : This piece is a hand carved wooden tribal fetish. The piece is originally from Zaire, and crafted by BABOA people. The piece resembles a man wearing a wicker skirt. The piece is crafted from wood, wicker, and rope, the piece has been colored in red, white, and black tones. The piece measures approx 29 inches H, and 8 inches wide. Wear is present on the piece. African art, spiritual, spirits, sculptures, folk art, tribal art, arts and crafts, idols, totems, mantle accessories, shelf accessories. 9 The Baboa people, are an ethnic group in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Baboa live in the savanna region in the north of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are in close contact with the Mangbetu and Zande peoples, they live mainly through subsistence farming and hunting, with some river commerce. The Baboa are known for their masks, which are thought to be used to enhance a warrior's courage before battle and in ceremonies to celebrate victories. The Boa carve statues designed to ward off evil.
