Consulter la cote et le prix de Terracotta Of An African, C. Roman Period Of Ancient Egypt

Description : Fired clay Egypt, probably Roman period Head of a terracotta of an African Dimensions: 5.3 x 4 x 3.3 cm (width x height x depth) Provenance: Private Collection Bruno Wertz Scientific research: Dr. Jan Moje, Free University of Berlin (see references below) A similar object is located at the Archaeological Institute in Tübingen (421), and at the Egyptian Museum Berlin (9217) This head of a terracotta figure originates from Egypt and dates most probably to the Roman period (30 BCE-c. AD 300). Remaining is the face of an African man or woman. In the case of these statuettes, the gender is not always identifiable. Very typical for this group of people is the well-formed face, the ear holes that once had earrings of metal inserted, as well as the close-fitting, curly hairdo. Such figures were most probably of such meaning that repelled of evil spirits, however, closer examinations regarding this theme are still missing. The terracotta is in very well condition, regarding the great age of the piece. The figure is missing below the head. On the right side of the face and on the back there are cracks in the clay, arousing from the manufacturing process of the terracotta that do not harm the quality of the piece. Details are largely decomposed. The figure is partially shoved on the backside. Some dark stains are visible on the clay surface. The dimensions of the figurehead are 5.3 x 4 x 3.3 cm (width x height x depth). Auctionata would like to express its deep gratitude to Dr. Jan Moje for the scientific preparation of the collection and the research for the text.
