Description : The Salampasu people of the Democratic Republic of Congo are fierce warriors, and this is shown prominently in their masks. Salampasu masks feature a pointed chin under a squared mouth baring sharp, pointed teeth. They have a pierced rounded nose and rectangular eyes beneath a bulbous forehead, and are decorated with red and black pigments. Provenance: These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum. A fantastic piece that's perfect for your collection! Piece has minor wear, with a small chip to the mask's left side. Cane balls intact with some moderate wear. Piece shows a rich patina throughout showing its age. Overall in good condition. Measures approximately 13 x 6 x 6 with a total weight of 1 lb.
