Description : -Lwalwa (Lwalu) Figure- -Democratic Republic of Congo- This striking figure was created by the Lwalwa people in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of Congo, who are primarily known for masks rather, than their sculptural figures. It features a balanced composition of angular planes and projections characteristic of Lwalwa art. The figure features a strongly projecting triangular nose, lidless eyes and protruding, rounded lips set in a concave face ending in a pointed chin. Provenance: These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America, and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum., A fantastic piece that's perfect for your collection! Piece is in good condition for its age, showing signs of use with a very nice patina. Toes look to have broken off and been previously repaired.
