Description : West Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba peoples, Burkina Faso, Mossi peoples, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A fine gathering of artifacts from two distinctive West African cultures. First is a Yoruba wooden dance wand called an Ose Shango - as it is used in dance ceremonies in the cult of Shango - with a nude woman grasping her breasts while kneeling atop an integral circular platform. Second is a Mossi fetish figure made from a tightly-bound leather panel, the rounded head of which vaguely resembling that of a human, decorated with a woven leather necklace. Size of largest (Yoruba): 1.625 W x 7.7 H (4.1 cm x 19.6 cm), 8.6 H (21.8 cm) on included custom stand.
