Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 943 BCE. A hand-built terracotta ushabti presenting in mummiform with crossed arms holding hand-painted farming implements. The surfaces are painted with a layer of white pigment before being further adorned in black across the tripartite wig, face, and basket held aloft by the shoulders on the verso. A column of hieroglyphs on the front of the legs reads, To illuminate the Osiris, Djedu-Maat-Iset-Ankh, beatified. Size: 0.87 L x 1.36 W x 4.56 H (2.2 cm x 3.5 cm x 11.6 cm), 5.82 H (14.8 cm) on included custom stand. Cf. Lieblein 2544 No.109, a Chantress of Amon. Condition report : Slight fissure along ankles formed during the figure's creation, with light fading to pigment, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to most hieroglyphs on front of legs. Figure is adhered to display stand and cannot be removed.
