Description : **Originally Listed At $600** Egypt, Alexandria, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A mold-formed terracotta figure depicting Horus (also Harpocrates, Harpokrates) seated nude atop an integral plinth. The portly Horus reclines back with an enormous phallus shown between his bent legs, his left arm wrapped around the body of an amphora, and his right hand dipped inside to sample its contents. His rounded face bears full cheeks, lips, eyelids, and nostrils, and his head is topped with a trio of conical elements. Horus was the god of silence, secrets, and confidentiality, and was a member of the Triad of Alexandria along with Serapis and Isis, the three gods most venerated in that city. Condition report : Repairs to area of base near right leg, with resurfacing and visible overpainting along break lines. Abrasions and softening to some finer details, and one stable hairline pressure fissure along right side of face, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits.
