The volume features text by Charles Cowen on the city as well as 24 accordion-fold photographs illustrated from negatives by D H Davies. The photographs are each labeled on the negatives. From the text: The chief attraction is Southern Africa at this moment is Johannesburg. And the place merits this priority. It has no parallel in ancient, mediaeval, or modern times. It seems to have sprung up to give light, life, and history to this portion of hitherto Dark Continent, and to be also the forerunner of a new era to countries beyond. Condition / Notes: This antique volume shows significant signs of age/wear with rubbing, soiling and edgewear to the boards. The spine is cracked. The text block and accordion-fold photographs show age toning and some foxing. The last photograph has been separated from the rest of the accordion fold. One small name stamp is present on the rear of the first photo. The rear boards show marks from previous tape.
