Description : -Bembe Mask- -Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)- -Early to Mid 20th Century- This is a fantastic example of the masks created by the Bembe people. Referred to as shield like in, their design, these masks typically have shield like carvings, concave oval shapes where eyes are located and some sort of protruding mouth. This piece having all of those features, is a great piece from this culture., Provenance: These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early, 1960s. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum. This is a beautiful early to mid 20th century cultural artifact from the Zaire that will make an, excellent addition to any cultural art collection.
