Consulter la cote et le prix de African Kuba Carved Wood Female Figure

Description : Congo, Africa, Kuba, 20th century. Carved, wooden standing female figure of stylized form with thick round base. Hands carved to extended perhaps pregnant belly that is adorned with an incised triangular design incised further with a diamond pattern, perhaps indicating scarification or tattooing, delineation of birthing genitalia, and round breasts announce her fertility. Her pronounced head and noble countenance indicate the dignity of womanhood among African cultures. Whether patrilinear or matrilineal, African societies are based on lineal descent and the mother figure ensures that the line continues. Hence women, in particular mother figures play a central role in African visual culture. 11-1/2T Provenance: Ex-Robert Pearson Collection All items in this auction have been legally acquired, are legal to sell, and guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
