Descripción : Ancient Egypt, Early Dynastic Period, 1st to 2nd Dynasty, ca. 3150 to 2686 BCE. An elegant hand-built terracotta vessel with a petite circular base, a wide body with a rounded shoulder, a raised rim, and four pierced lug handles for suspension. Around the shoulder is a band of notched grooves set above a lightly-incised ring. The buffware surface is coated in a thin layer of iron-oxide slip which imbues the vessel with its red hue. Size: 5.125 W x 2.875 H (13 cm x 7.3 cm). Condition report : Small areas of repair to body and lower shoulder with small chips along break lines. Minor nicks to base, body, lug handles, and rim, with fading and losses to some areas of pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
