Note : PROVENANCE:Purchased by Mr Theo SnitcherThence by descent to the current ownerHiggs was born near Thaba 'Nchu in the Free State and grew up near the border with Basutoland (Lesotho). Childhood memories of this wonderful landscape, strengthened by a few impressions later in her life, often recur in her painting. The present lot dates to circa 1947; the artist also exhibited a number of Basutoland landscapes at her H.A.U.M. exhibition in Cape Town in October 1952.
