Descrizione : A Heavy Stool! A four-legged circular stool decorated with four legs (pillars0 with carved figures in high relief. The seat is embellished  ,with incised motifs. , Among the Dogon people of the Bandiagara escarpment in Mali art and mythology are often the same, sharing images whether carved or spoken of during their rituals. Amma, the Creator God, originally created eight humans known as Nommo, who were divided into four pairs, male and female who in the Dogon creation myth come down to the earth in a kind of an ark, drawn by a horse or magically settling onto the earth. A stool such as this symbolically represents the ‘ark’ and serves as a symbolic reminder of that mythic heritage. Sculpted stools would be traditionally used by the Hogon, the local priest and diviner. Though a late piece this strong and vigorous carving incorporates elements form Dogon traditional symbolism and imagery. The male figure serve as a support for the stool while referring not only to the mythological ancestors but also one’s own lineage or ancestors going back into the mist of time.
