Note : The Chinese jar featured here is in the Irma Stern Museum collection. The colour combination of this work is unusual; a unique blend of primaries with a delicate pale pink centre point. The three elements comprising irises (often painted by Stern), full garden roses and what appears to be the dark, shaggy, brownish maroon flowers of Melianthus major, make a most pleasing composition making full use of the vertical and horizontal possibilities.We are grateful to Christopher Peter of the Irma Stern Museum for his assistance in cataloguing this lot.
