Descrizione : PROPERTY FROM A NEW YORK PRIVATE COLLECTION A SUMERIAN CLAY TABLET, 3RD DYNASTY OF UR, REIGN OF AMAR-SIN, CIRCA 2045-2037 B.C. of rectangular domed form with four columns of cuneiform inscription on each side. PROVENANCE Lt. Col. J. de Grey, India, 1920s Sotheby's, London, May 31st, 1990, no. 142, illus. American private collection (Sotheby's, New York, December 11th, 2002, no. 114, illus) CATALOGUE NOTE In a letter, now lost, to Lieutenant-Colonel de Grey dated December 30th, 1920, Professor Sidney Smith, then Assistant Curator of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities at the British Museum, notes that this large tablet of accounts comes from Drehem and contains receipts for cattle, goats, sheep, and other goods. It is dated in the 4th year of Amar-sin, King of Ur, the year in which the High Priest of Heaven, the Priest of the Moon God was exalted.
