A collection of awards and ephemera relating to George H. Gill, Royal Marine Artillery, comprising Queen's South Africa Medal, with bar 'Belmont', with engraved naming to '4335 Sjt. G. Gill. R.M.A. H.M.S. Monarch', 1914-18 British War Medal to 'R.M.A. 4335 Cr. Sjt. G. Gill.', Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, Edward VII issue, to '4335 George Gill, Sergt., R.M.A.', 1939-45 Defence Medal, with forwarding slip and box, a large quantity of related paperwork and photographs, including certificate of service of George Gill, showing that he received bullet wounds at Graspan and that he was mentioned in dispatches London Gazette 12.3.01, testimonial letter from Major A Marchant RMA, dated August 1904, RMA divisional orders March 18th 1901, listing Sergeant Gill as being worthy of special mention, Royal Marine Artillery parchment certificate, confirming QSA and LS and GC medal and that he was wounded at Graspan, dated 34rd June 1902, de-mob certificate, dated 30th July 1919, showing five good conduct badges, recommendation for the Distinguished Conduct Medal (with Annuity), showing 'wounded at Graspan (ENSLIN) showed a splendid example of courage to the men under a very heavy, accurate fire, and until wounded was of very great assistance in the attack of the strongly held position. Strongly recommended Naval dispatches 17th October 1900', also recommended for the MSM, a group photograph of eight, detailed 'Patients in No. 1 Ward RN Hospital Simon's Town 1899', and a wide variety of later paperwork indicating service in the ARP and the Observer Corps of Special Constables, photograph of the City of Portsmouth Ambulance, various maps and sundry, together with a quantity of British and foreign postage stamps, including a variety of Elizabeth II commemorative issues
