The lithograph is from the portfolio ‘Art suitcase. Dialogue of Cultures‘, which was published in Hanover on occasion of the World Exhibition EXPO 2000. It comprised 13 works by various international artists and was published under the patronage of Nelson Mandela. This lithograph in colors on Hahnemühle cardboard was made by the African artist El Loko. This work represents one of his famous stele with a stylized representation of a bird and an egg.

The lithograph in colors is signed and dated lower right in white crayon ‘El Loko 2000’, titled in the lower center ‘Toleranz’ and numbered lower left white crayon ‘35/100’. The sheet is in very good condition and measures 79 x 59 cm. The total dimensions are 80 x 60 cm.

El Loko (born 1950)
The textile designer El Loko studied at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf and was mainly influenced by Joseph Beuys. The latter was his model and El Loko was one of his master students. El Loko is known particularly for his stele on which birds are nesting such as on trees. The artist has participated in numerous international exhibitions. (lvp)

The color photograph on glossy paper is from the portfolio ‘Art suitcase. Dialogue of Cultures‘, which was published in Hanover on occasion of the World Exhibition EXPO 2000. It comprised 13 works by various international artists and was published under the patronage of Nelson Mandela. The photograph was created by the Nigerian doctor and installation artist Mo Edoga. Presentenced is, in the style of the artist, one of his works of plywood.

The work is signed and dated lower left in gold crayon ‘El Loko Expo 2000 Hannover’, numbered in the lower center ‘35/100’ and titled as well as inscribed in the lower right ‘Fragile Earth’. The condition is good with slight signs of wear. The overall size is 80 x 60 cm and the sheet measures 75 x 50 cm.

Mo Edoga (1952-2014)
Mo Edoga was a doctor who practiced in South Africa as a neurosurgeon and has since 1982 a studio on the Friesenheimer island. His art works were initially made of plywood, which he collected in 1988, after the flood of the Rhine Neckar. So his work (Huldigung an) Vater Rhein und Mutter Neckar was created, which was not only made of plywood but also of other finds, such as plastic and other. Edoga used always in his works fabric tapes for fixing. (lvp)
